Greener Living in Kitsap Soon!

Beginning on January 1st, 2020, Kitsap area retailers will no longer offer thin, single-use plastic bags to customers. Paper bags and recycled plastic bags will be available for 8 cents each, while customers are encouraged to bring their own reusable bags for free. The military bases are unaffected by the ordinance, and customers on food assistance programs will not be charged.

Bag Guidelines

The county and the city of Bremerton passed an ordinance in August of 2019 aimed at curbing the stream of plastic that enters the ecosystem.  Areas like Puget Sound are especially effected by this sort of pollution, and this effort takes aim at one of the leading sources.

We applaud Kitsap area residents and leadership for this initiative.  It will make Kitsap a better place to live for everyone!
